Why Urban Studies

Urban Studies is an interdisciplinary field of study that offers an in-depth understanding of cities and processes of urbanisation. In Urban Studies, students find a liberal arts experience of immediate relevance to our urban age. Students learn about many different urban contexts, processes and topics, and are taught a range of explanatory frameworks (economic, political, social, cultural and spatial).

JOSHUA VARGAS, CLASS OF 2023

I am intrigued by the problems developing cities face. These problems do not fall neatly within disciplinary boundaries.

EMMA GRIMLEY, CLASS OF 2022

I love that the concepts we learn can be applied to what we see everyday, especially in Singapore. On hindsight, I have always been fascinated with cities so it’s surprising it took me so long to discover this field of study!

MICHELLE LEE, CLASS OF 2022

“I am because of where I grew up” – I selected Urban Studies because I just love the idea that we, who are agents of the city, are inevitably also shaped by the city! I’m curious about how that relationship is intertwined and why it is so.
